Recladding is invasive and it’s not cheap, so it has to be right. The point is to solve the moisture problem permanently (proper cavity, flashings, wraps and detailing), while restoring or improving how the home looks, not flattening its character in the process.

Cedar cladding and recladding
Cedar is one of the best-looking claddings there is, and one of the least forgiving if it is fixed badly. Western red cedar is stable, durable and takes a finish beautifully, whether you want it silvering off naturally, oiled, or stained dark for a contemporary look. On a reclad it goes over a proper drained cavity, with the fixings, junctions and flashings detailed so the home stays sound behind the timber.
United House installs cedar in vertical and horizontal shiplap, board-and-batten and weatherboard profiles, on character homes and contemporary ones alike. A recent example is a full re-roof and dark vertical cedar recladding on a waterfront home in Westmere.
Common questions
Will recladding change how my house looks?
Only if you want it to. On a character home we can reclad in matching weatherboard so it looks original, just dry and sound underneath.
What if there’s rot once you open it up?
We expect to find the unexpected on a reclad and we’re upfront about it. We assess and fix structural damage properly rather than papering over it.
Does recladding need consent?
Usually yes. We manage the consent, the weathertightness documentation and council sign-off as part of the job.
Can you reclad in cedar?
Yes. We install western red cedar in vertical and horizontal shiplap, board-and-batten and weatherboard profiles, over a proper cavity, and can finish it natural, oiled or stained dark for a contemporary look.
